We made it! After 4 flights and 2 nights in hotels, we arrived in Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley late this afternoon. The trip was drawn out with long stops between majour flights. Partly this was due to what was available and partly choices that would allow for flight delays and cancelations. While all flights except the Latam flight from Lima to Cusco were delayed somewhat, none of it was significant. And the best news - both of our checked bags arrived intact and on the same flights as us! 😀
We were met in Cusco by Fernando, who took the scenic route to Ollantaytambo making the 1 hour 15 minute drive into almost 2 hours. We stopped for photo opportunities along the way and he provided some insights into the vistas that we were passing. My Spanish is rusty but somehow between Faith and I, we managed.
We plan to stay put for 4 days and then return to Cusco. The altitude here is only 2800 meters so this will give us a chance to acclimatize a bit before we go to Cusco which is around 3400 meters. We will also get some hiking in and visit ruins in the area. It's a very cool place, but more about that in a future post. For now, here are some more photos we took along the way.
